Navigation

GPS Navigation

In a NZ first the CCA will provide a downloadable route for Garmin GPS users to navigate the 2010 CCA. This will be a first for any NZ adventure ride so please treat it as a trial. A lot of the course will not be GPS navigable as the tracks we use will not be on the base maps, you will be following a 'bread crumb' trail. You will need to use a route sheet as well (or at least ride with someone who is using one). We welcome your feedback on how to improve it.

Those entrants who have ticked the GPS box on the enrty form will receive the track via email on Wed 17th.

Route Sheet Navigation

If you've never ridden in a Adventure ride before, here is how the navigation system works. The organiser prepares written instructions for the whole course (usually around 200km) and you receive a copy of this when you sign in printed on about a dozen A4 sheets. Here's a sample route sheet, just click on it for a larger view.

You cut and join all the sections into a roll and feed it into a navigator box. They're easy to make out of a 'Click-Clack' lunchbox with a couple of rollers mounted inside like so... The 0.4 litre is the best size, but they're not made anymore so get the
0.6 litre - contact NZ The Distributors to find out who are the retailers near you.
